Glad I did go back down to Ynyslas last night because we caught another 35 Dunlin including 2 retraps and a Norwegian control!! Will post details when they arrive.

Also managed to catch the other (or another?) Curlew Sandpiper

and another Knot too, not a particularly common bird on the Dyfi.

Juvenile Knot showing the dark subterminal bars on the coverts

In the morning Sarah and I had a successful go at tape-luring Meadow Pipits in Borth. 70 pipits and 20 Reed Buntings were ringed along with 5 Reed Warblers which was a bit of a surprise - I thought they had largely gone already.

  1. Mute swan - one of pair with 6 signets on Pencarreg lake, 7BAH.
Is it one of your Tony?

  2. Hi Mark,
long time no speak. Hope you and yours are all keeping well. I see Al has been getting his hand in again with the Teifi ringers. Yes, that swan was ringed as a cygnet 14 years ago at Glanrhyd-y-Pysgod, Llanfihangel-ar-Arth (try fitting that in your new ringing notebooks!). It was probably done on a trip down to or back from the Teifi! The ring number is W03580 if you want to report it through the BTO website - if you do you'll get one of their nice new email recovery forms so well worth it.

  3. Done that:-)
Yes, Ali was brushing up before heading to Bird Island for 18 months. He will be studying penguins, and other birds which is likely to include ringing.
All well thanks. Now have 2 grandchildren!
Trust all well, I keep up through this website.......... Best wishes
